“ESG Ranking. Responsible Management” (formerly Ranking of Responsible Companies) is a recognized list of the largest companies in Poland, evaluated in terms of the quality of responsible and sustainable management in accordance with ESG guidelines. This is the 19th edition of the Ranking, organized by the Kozminski Business Hub at Kozminski University.
The ranking is based on results presented independently by companies in a questionnaire and verified, according to the methodology prepared by the authors – Boleslaw Rok of Kozminski University and Jaroslaw Horodecki, analyst. The content of this year’s survey was changed from last year’s survey, and its modifications were made – once again – by a specially appointed ESG Ranking Scientific Board, which this year included experts from Climate Leadership UNEP/GRID, Kozminski University and Forum Odpowiedzialnego Biznesu (the Responsible Business Forum): Irena Pichola, Ilona Otoka, Mariusz Golab, Sergey Podus, Aneta Skubida, Katarzyna Frankowiak, Piotr Biernacki, Agnieszka Sznyk, Robert Sroka, Michal Purol, Marcin Milczarski, Franjo Mlinaric, Piotr Kowalik and Boleslaw Rok.
This year’s survey included 70 questions of a diverse nature in eleven parts. This division is a result of the adopted European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), which already apply to selected companies operating in the Polish market. The ESRS is divided into two sets of issues under general disclosures (ESRS-1, ESRS-2, here combined), five sets of “E” issues under environmental indicators (ESRS-E1, ESRS-E2, ESRS-E3, ESRS-E4, ESRS-E5), four sets of ‘S’ issues under social indicators (ESRS-S1, ESRS-S2, ESRS-S3, ESRS-S4) and one set of “G” issues on corporate governance (ESRS-G1).
The individual parts of the Questionnaire cover selected general disclosures of a strategic nature; selected environmental disclosures – climate, pollution, water, biodiversity, use of raw materials; selected social disclosures – the company’s own employee resources, employees in the value chain, affected communities, customers and users, and selected corporate governance disclosures. There are 6 questions in each part, only the first part contains 10 questions, covering two introductory chapters from the ESRS. We emphasize that these are only selected questions and indicators from each category.
The survey can therefore be a useful tool in preparation for mandatory sustainability reporting. Participation in the Ranking is free and voluntary.

Subsequent editions of the Ranking continue the initiative first published in Manager Magazin in 2007 and 2008 under the name “Good Company Ranking”, in Gazeta Prawna in 2009, and since 2010 in Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.
All editions have been prepared by Professor Bolesław Rok and Jarosław Horodecki.
The survey on which the Responsible Companies Ranking is based is updated annually to reflect changes occurring in the Polish market. The Ranking is created based on results voluntarily submitted by companies in the survey and verified according to a proprietary methodology.
The second, independent part of the Responsible Companies Ranking is the Positive Impact Startups Ranking. The selection is made by a separately appointed Positive Impact Panel, composed of opinion leaders from the startup and social sectors, based on a set of established criteria.
This ranking is part of the process of building a positive impact ecosystem at Kozminski University, within the Kozminski Business Hub – a cross-sector consortium of partners supporting the development of positive impact entrepreneurship in Poland.
The Responsible Companies Ranking and Positive Impact Startups Ranking are key components of the implementation of Kozminski University’s Sustainable Transformation Strategy.
